Athlete Town Nobeoka Hangs Banners Ahead of Next Month's Golden Games


The town of Nobeoka in Miyazaki prefecture hung banners for the May 4 Golden Games in Nobeoka track meet throughout its downtown area to help promote the meet and generate local excitement. The Golden Games meet brings in the country's top middle and long distance athletes, and in preparation for it the local Asahi Kasei men's corporate team and city officials hung a total of 117 promotional banners. This year's meet will focus on qualifying times for August's World Championships, and the 10000 m in particular is expected to be high level.

Asahi Kasei head coach Isao Nishimura commented, "The support of local fans really helps push the athletes on to faster times. I hope that a lot of people will come down to cheer them on." The Golden Games in Nobeoka meet starts at 1:00 p.m. on May 4 at Nishishina Field.

Thank you for this article. This answers my question on when we should expect to see Fuwa Seira make her track debut this season in the 10000m event. Hopefully, Ririka Hironaka will also feature provided she has recovered from her injury that prevented her participation at the Bathurst World Cross Country event in mid Feb. It would be wonderful to see both participate at peak fitness/health given their PBs are so close. I've marked the date in my calendar.

JAAF Announces Marathon Teams for Nagoya Asian Games

On Mar. 25 the JAAF announced Japan's marathon team lineups for this fall's Nagoya Asian Games. Yuya Yoshida (GMO) and Ichitaka Yamashita (Mitsubishi Juko) make up the men's team, with Sayaka Sato (Sekisui Kagaku) and Mikuni Yada (Edion) representing Japan in the women's marathon. Each country can field up to 2 men and 2 women per marathon team at the Asian Games. The top-ranked male and female athletes in the 2025-26 MGC Series rankings were given first priority, with the second slots going to people with high-level performances in the 2025-26 MGC Series. Yoshida ran 2:05:16 to win the 2024 Fukuoka International Marathon, and at February's Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon ran an excellent 2:06:59 to take the top Japanese spot in the race and in the MGC rankings.
