In his first race of the season 93-year-old super veteran runner Hiroo Tanaka showed that he still has what it takes. Tanaka lined up in three events at the Prefectural Sports and Recreation Festival in Aomori. On June 16 at a junior high school track and field championships meet in Aomori a student was hit in the head by a metal shot put ball and suffered a fractured skull. The incident happened at Kazuhiro Group Athletics Stadium in Aomori at the Tosei Region qualifying meet for this summer's prefectural junior high school sports festival. According to the Tosei Junior High School Athletics Association, the incident occurred just before 8:00 a.m. on June 16 at the warmup track next to the main stadium. While warming up a student threw the shot, which hit another student on the side of the head. The injured student remained conscious and was immediately taken to the hospital, where they were treated for a fractured skull. Their current condition has not been released. On June 10th the Aomori Prefectural Sports Association handed down a warning to the Aomori Athletics Association after a former AAA director who resigned in April this year had improperly used funds to buy home appliances for personal use in 2019. The director, who had been in charge of accounting at the AAA, conducted a bank transfer of over 180,000 yen (~$1650 USD at the time) from the AAA account to pay for the appliances. The director was found to have created false documents to cover the purchase, which was conducted online. The fraud was discovered in May, 2019 after other members of the AAA executive board investigated, and the director repaid the full amount the next month. These details of the case had been kept internally among the executive board for the last five years. Men's 90+ 100 m world record holder  Hiroo Tanaka  has become a household name in Aomori. On the Sept. 18 Respect for the Aged Day national holiday Tanaka, 92, planned to go for his own world record at a masters track and field meet held in Hirosaki, Aomori. 140 people took part in the Aomori Masters Track and Field Championships, but there was no question who drew the most attention.  Tanaka competed in the 400 m, and 2 hours later lined up again in the 100 m. He started well, but after losing momentum in the middle part of the race he finished in 18.17. At the Aomori Masters Track and Field Meet on the Sept. 19 public holiday in Hirosaki, Aomori, a group of local men in their 90s set new men's 90-94 pending world records of 1:33.52 for 4x100 m relay and 9:23.29 for the 4x400 m. Both marks bettered the world records the same group set last year and are expected to be ratified as official world records by World Masters Athletics.
