On Apr. 16 the organizers of the Lake Saroma 100 km Ultramarathon in Hokkaido announced that this year's 35th running on June 28 has been canceled due to the coronavirus crisis. Founded in 1986, Lake Saroma is the world's premier 100 km, the site of both the current women's and men's world records. This is the first time the race has been canceled. The roughly 4100 entrants will receive partial refunds in the form of credits they can use for online entry in other races, and will get priority in entry for next year's event.
