Kagawa to Hold New JAAF-Certified Marathon - Governor Says "It'll Be Fast"

 

Kagawa prefecture is set to hold its first JAAF-certified full marathon in March next year with the launch of the Kagawa Marathon. The new event's executive committee approved the decision to move forward at a board meeting.

The new race will take place Mar. 15, 2026. Kagawa governor Tomohito Ikeda said that the Kagawa Marathon would include a fun run to make it easy for beginners to be a part of it, that well-known former athletes were being appointed event ambassadors to increase its appeal, and that race weekend would include a market and music concerts. "It will be a fast race where runners can run with ease and go for time goals," he said. "We hope to make it an event where people from outside the prefecture will want to spend extra time."

The prefecture will launch official social media accounts to help build interest in the new race.

Tanaka and Hashioka Win Gold - World U20 Championships Day Two Japanese Results

Working together to execute an aggressive frontrunning team strategy born from failure two years ago in Bydgoszcz , 2018 Asian U20 3000 m gold medalist Nozomi Tanaka and 2018 Asian Junior Cross Country gold medalist Yuna Wada opened a massive lead over the African Junior Cross Country medalist Ethiopian duo of Meselu Berhe and Tsige Gebreselama in the early going of the Tampere World U20 Championships women's 3000 m. Tanaka took the lead from the gun before Wada went out front at 200 m to set a fast pace. Through splits of 3:00 and 3:03 for the first 2000 m, Tanaka kicked hard from 300 m out to close with a 2:51 for Japan's first-ever gold medal in the event, winning in a PB of 8:54.01. Berhe and Gebreselama caught Wada on the back corner but weren't even close to matching Tanaka, taking 2nd and 3rd in PBs just under the 9-minute mark. 2026 Tokyo Marathon Elite Field

The Mar. 1 Tokyo Marathon has great fields this year, so let's get right to it. The women's field has 3 of last year's top 10, winner for the 2nd year in a row and Tokyo CR holder Sutume Asefa Kebede , 3rd-placer and 2025 Chicago winner Hawi Feysa , and 5th-placer and 2025 Berlin winner Rosemary Wanjiru , plus 2024 Valencia winner Megertu Alemu , 2025 Prague winner Bertukan Welde , 2024 Paris winner Mestawut Fikir , 2024 Osaka winner Waganesh Mekasha , former WR holder Brigid Kosgei , and a lot more.
