1st stage 11.6 km. Bene Zama, Team Nissin Shokuhin - #3 wearing sunglasses, won the stage last year in 33:52 but is sitting in back right now.

Guest announcer is Katsuhiko Hanada, Olympian and Jobu Univ. head coach. Women's race is about to start. Men through 1k in 2:50, then sudden pace down. Approaching 5 k in over 16 min, JAL's Anzai lost patience and just took off suddenly. Nissin's Zama went after him along with Konica-Minolta.

Women's team Mitsui Sumitomo Kaijo going for 10th str. E. Jpn win. Lost Nationals to Toyota Jidoshoki last year. Mitsui's Yoko Shibui still injured, not running along with two other key members.

Hitomi Niiya (ToyJid) has big lead. Chased by Ohira (MitSum), Akaba (Hokuren).

Akaba already moved up from 8th to 5th. Less than 10 sec to Ohira (2nd).

Sato was left off the WC team despite running the 27:38. Possibly connected to Athletics Kenya banning Nissin's Gideon Ngatuny from the WC team and asking Rikuren to take action against Nissin for letting Gideon run the Sapporo Half Marathon.

Chisato Osaki (MitSum) passes Yukari Sahaku (UnivEnt) for 3rd. Sahaku has been out of form since Nat'l T&F in June.

Wakita ran 10k at 2007 WC but was injured last year. Now leading Hokuren's Nejo. Toyota Jidoshoki has excellent runners left, but Hokuren has used its best two.

12 teams get the white sash start - 10 min after leader. 2 of them will qualify for the New Year Ekiden. There are so many that they didn't have enough sashes.

Fast High School 5000 m Times at Nittai and Kyoto

After the great men's 10000 m and women's 5000 m results on day 1 of the last full Nittai University Time Trials meet of 2025, day 2 brought a lot of great 5000 m times from high schoolers, both at Nittai and at another meet in Kyoto. At Nittai, Bilith Boi (Sapporo Yamanote H.S.) downed 3000 mSC NR holder Ryuji Miura (Subaru) in the last of the 35 heats of 5000 m, running 13:27.52 to Miura's 13:28.61. Ryo Goda (Yasukawa Denki) also got under 13:30, running 13:29.41 for 3rd, with 40-year-old Yuichiro Ueno (Hiramatsu Byoin) rocking on with a 13:32.12 for 4th. James Karuri (Aomori Yamada H.S.) was 8th in 13:35.46, with 17-year-old Naoya Doma (Sera H.S.) running an excellent 13:39.13 for 10th. Samuel Gayu and Yua Hayashi also got under 14 minutes in the same heat to make it 3 sub-14 for Sapporo Yamanote H.S. In Heat 34, Chien Tzu-Chieh (Sendai Ikuei H.S.) ran a Taiwanese NR 13:48.99 for 4th, with Yui Kudo and Yugo Yamamoto running sub-14 to bring the Aomori Yamada...
