The Tamba city government in Hyogo Prefecture issued a statement on Nov. 5 saying that a 39 year old male administrator of the city's Central Civic Hall has been fired after being caught embezzling $130,000 worth of race entry fees from the city's marathon and other civic events between October 2005 and September 2008. The man's supervisor discovered the theft while the employee was on sick leave in September. When confronted the employee said that he had stolen the money to pay for his gambling habit. The man repaid the entire sum by October 30 but will still face criminal charges.
