Olympian Honami Maeda Breaks Hakodate Half Marathon CR


At the July 3 Hakodate Half Marathon in Hakodate, Hokkaido, 30 km national record holder and Tokyo Olympics marathon team member Honami Maeda (Tenmaya) won in a course record 1:08:28, improving her PB by 40 seconds. Her Tenmaya teammate Natsumi Matsushita, already qualified for the MGC 2024 Olympic marathon trials, was 2:16 behind in 2nd, with Tokyo Olympics 10000 m squad member Yuka Ando (Wacoal) 4th.

Paul Kuira (JR Higashi Nihon) won the men's half marathon in 1:02:17, beating top Japanese man Shun Sadakata (Mazda) by 29 seconds. National record holder Yusuke Ogura (Yakult) was 12th in 1:03:39, with former NR holder Yuta Shitara (Honda) 28th in 1:05:48. Miharu Shimokado (S.I.D. Group) won the accompanying full women's full marathon in 2:43:16, Shintaro Miyakawa (Tokyo Police) taking the men's race in 2:22:25.

I saw a twitter post regarding Yuka Ando finishing 4th but had no idea that Honami Maeda had entered this race and won it in such a wonderful time. She really is coming back strong after the Olympics. A PB by 40s is eye popping! She should be over the moon and I really hope she can deliver a marathon performance of the same vein. Her last twitter post was a photo of her training on the track and she looked amazingly fit in it so it's good to see that the looks were not deceiving and she really looked and was in top form. Well done to her!

2026 Hakone Ekiden Viewership Rating Hits Peak of 34.7% With Over 56 Million Tuning In

Video Research, Inc. announced on Jan. 5 that the average viewership rating for Nippon TV's broadcast of the 102nd Hakone Ekiden reached 28.5% for the first day of the race on Jan. 2, and 30.2% for the second day on Jan. 3, an average of 29.4% for the complete broadcast. Last year's race had ratings of 27.9% for Day One, 28.8% for Day Two, and an average of 28.4%. The total viewership for the overall two-day race was 56,217,000, up nearly 800,000 from the 2025 broadcast . 42,679,000 tuned in for the Day One broadcast and 45,547,000 for Day Two.
