On June 17 the JAAF announced its team of four men and four women for the 31st IAU 100 km World Championships to be held Aug. 27 in Berlin, Germany. Held every two years, the last edition of the 100 m World Championships was scheduled for 2020 in Winschoten, the Netherlands, but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. 2018 gold medalist Hideaki Yamauchi (Hamamatsu Hotniks RC) and world record holder Nao Kazami (Aisan Kogyo) lead the Japanese men's team, with 2018 bronze medalist Mai Fujisawa (Sapporo Excel AC) leading the women's team.
