It's hard to believe this is really true. I just saw Stephen Mayaka, who helped take care of Wanjiru when he lived in Japan, and Mekubo Mogusu, Wanjiru's old HS-era rival, yesterday.

This was the best photo of Wanjiru ever taken, how I'll always remember him. Click on it for higher resolution.

Thank you "Brett in Tokyo" for a link to this picture. I am in absolute shock that one of the greatest runners to ever live has fallen so quickly...This picture of him is the epitome of everything that running is about.

I am quite saddened by the news of his death. I really liked him as a runner and despite all that he achieved (which was quite remarkable) I still can not help but think....if only.
