Sorry to cannibalize this article rather write my own profile of Kiyoko Shimahara, but I've been in and out of the hosptial the last 3 days and am not really feeling up to writing a parallel article right now. No disrespect to my friendly neighborhood Shimahara.
I would only add that among her credentials as a heat runner is also Shimahara's silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games marathon behind China's Chunxiu Zhou.
