Top Japanese Man at Tokyo Marathon to Receive BMW

The top Japanese runner at the 2011 Tokyo Marathon will be presented with a new model BMW 5-series sedan. BMW has announced the creation of a new Japanese Men's Incentive Prize, with a bonus of a BMW 523i sedan going to the top Japanese man. The prize is intended to give extra motivation to the Japanese men who will be in the Tokyo Marathon competing for a spot on the Japanese national team for the 2011 World Championships.

The BMW company has created the new prize in conjunction with the Tokyo Marathon Foundation. This year's Tokyo Marathon will use BMW's Active Hybrid X6 as its lead vehicles along with 44 BMW Cruise Bike motorcycles, and BMW has launched a new Tokyo Marathon Special Site. At the new site visitors can view the "42.195 Efficient Running Movie," a course tour video shot from an Active Hybrid X6. While watching the video viewers can listen to expert advice on improving their own running.

Tokyo isn't a selection race for the women (yet), so it looks like they just get the regular prize money.

Ai Hosoda Announces Retirement

The Tokyo Marathon will be her last race. At Nagano Higashi H.S. Hosoda ran in the National High School Ekiden her 2nd and 3rd years. During her 3rd year at Nittai University she won both the 5000 m and 10000 m at the Kanto Region University Track and Field Championships, going on to win the bronze medal in the 10000 m at the World University Games in her 4th year at Nittai. After graduating she joined the Daihatsu corporate team, debuting at the 2019 Nagoya Women's Marathon in 2:29:27. 2 years later she transferred to Edion.
